How many fish can live in my tank?

Just get the heater as a backup and keep it in the cabinet. I like a tank with background. It's optional but I make it mandatory with all my tanks and cover all three sides but the front as this helps make the fish feel more secured with their surroundings.

Leigh, don't worry about babies. If you don't remove the eggs the fish will just eat them and then devour any wigglers that hatch. It won't be a problem. Most healthy adult goldies breed regularly and without lots of hiding places for the fry, it's unusual to have babies survive in an aquarium setting.

You can also try java ferns if you don't like plastic plants. They are one of the few plants that even salad-loving goldfish won't eat. :)

^^ Thanks for the help, I might be able to even save money if I keep watching my local paper for tanks for sale, only think I'm worried about that is if it leaks or something and they didn't tell me. But now is the waiting game till I have enough money to buy everything.

^^ one more question, would one of the emperor 400 be enough for the tank or am I completely over killing it with two?

Lol that is true, but would that be alright for a set up?if I start to have troubles with the tank I could always get a second one

With goldfish you want overkill filtration. I run an Aquaclear 70 HOB filter AND a Fluval FX5 (rated for 400 gallons) on a 75 gallon tank. Despite a theoretical 6X more than needed filtration capacity, there are still times when I wish I had more, though my tank is overstocked pretty badly.

I think your proposed setup should work quite well. Some people are bothered by the noise from the Emperor filters, but it's a matter of opinion. They can be quite economical if you have/make reusable filter elements. I used to run extra bio-media (or charcoal if needed) in the plastic holders, and cut a square of cleanable filter foam/batting that I pushed in loose behind the holder. No more expensive cartridges.

I can understand that hehe though I will probably only have four or five fish in the tank, then again it would be fish like Lionheads, Oranda, Ranchu, and maybe another Ryukin if I can find one, or even a Fantail.

I'm not bothered by the noise from the filters, the filter I'm using now is loud. O.O

Also, I went shop around a little and I found the Marineland Penguin Bio-wheel power filters. The largest model does 350 gph and is not as expensive as the the Emperor and with two I can have 700 gph its nearly the same as the Emperor, would this work as well?

xD alright so my plans are in stone, I'll be buying some little Orandas, Ryukin and possibly a lionhead or two. Along with my current Ryukin who has been named Munchie xD

My question though is it alright for me to buy them now if they are about a inch long and put them in my 55 gal.? I'll be getting the new 75 gal in late september early october.
