Another update. Sanded and stained. Seemed like I would never get here.

Still waiting on doors.

Still need to seal with Poly.

Getting closer.......

That is one beautiful piece! You and your daughter should be proud for the job you've done together and the connection as father and daughter that you've made with each other.

Thanks for the nice compliment. I must say, my daughter is pretty excited about the whole project, and is pretty amazed at what we have accomplished so far. This started as a desire to have a little larger tank, and has progressed into something much more.

Now have two coats of Poly on, and it is really beginning to look like furniture.

Congrats on such a beautiful stand! I am finding your thread to be very inspirational. Very soon I will be under taking the same project, I like yours so much I might try and duplicate it. Do you have a grocery list by chance?

Looking great! Out of curiosity how heavy is it?
Good question. I don’t really know.

Since there is no 2x4 inner construction, it is probably lighter than other DIYstands I have seen.

Once I get the doors, I will try to weigh it and reportback.

On the first page of this thread is a drawing I put togetherto work off of. It also includes the actual list of lumber that I purchased, not including trim. It could easily be modified for other size tanks. If youwant a higher quality copy, we can work out a way for me to send it to you.

At some point, I can probably put together a more detailedoverview of how I went about it. I really poured over other DIY builds onvarious sites, and incorporated what I considered to be the best features thatI wanted.

As I’ve pointed out, I am not really a carpenter or woodworker, but do have pretty good general skills and like to do “projects”. Ispent an awful lot of time putting together detailed plans and so fareverything is going about as good as I could have hoped.

Let me know what type of questions you may have, and Iwill do my best to describe what I did.

Finally got the tank on the stand. Still no doors, but almost there.
