Hey guys I picked up a 10g with hood and light for free from a friend. I know its not much to work with but I would like to keep something interesting in there.

I currently have a 120g with south American cichlids, rainbows and filament barbs. its a really nice aquarium but I was thinking of having something different in the 10g. as this will tide me over until I can set up my 75g african aquarium in the fall.

Possibly, bumblebee gobies, parambassis ranga, maybe some shrimps.

a colony of shell dwellers from lake tanganyika

a single pair of cichlid, something like kribensis, buffalo head etc.

can anyone give me some interesting ideas?

I was thinking of having shrimps and snails in thre too, I`ve never kept freshwater inverts.

Apisto is a good idea but I already have south american cichlids, I really want something different. If I wanted I could put rams in my 120 its pretty peaceful.

Ember tetras, chili rasboras, sparkling gouramis, or celestial pearl danios would work.
The tetras, danios and rasboras need a group of 6+ of their own species.

Sparkling gourami`s are the dwarf ones right? I like those. I`m afraid that if I did keep dwarf puffers I would be unable to keep anything else with them right?

Any cool oddballs that could be kept in a 10g?

I love Celestial Pearl Danios, but they can sometimes be hard to find.

A planted male betta tank or 3 female bettas would be nice in a 10g.

I had CPDs, red cherry shrimp and some snails in my planted 10g. I never saw the CPDs in there. I took down the 10g and put everything in a 29g. The CPDs are out, about and all over the place in there. I won't use the 10g again unless I need a hospital or quarantine tank. Too limited for my liking.

Yes. You wouldn't be able to keep anything else with a DP except another DP. 2 females or a male and a female in a 10g.
