what is a powerhead?

They basically are used to move water from one side to the other for circulation, water agitation, used in UGF/RUGF to pump water in/out, used in many reefs, ehh pretty much what i could think of off my head right now lol.

creates water circulation - it is used as filtration and filtration support (like with undergravel filters)

it is nececary, because you do not want all your turnover rate from the filter, and in planted tanks it allows the filter to pick up all plant gunk.

They also help prevent dead spaces in your water column by moving (circulating) water. Also some fish love the current - some dont so you need to know what you are stocking before adding the current.

Mbuna (Your socolofi and labs) really like water flow. I keep powerheads in all my tanks. The fish love to swim in the current.

I use Maxi Jets. A 1200 will cost you between 20 and 30, depending on where you buy it.
