Lobster

Your lobster should be ok with the irridescent sharks. If it were 5 or 6 inch oscars I would so no. When I kept oscars they would love to eat lobsters even the ones that were same size as them.

ok, so the tides have turned lol...i didnt realize he will molt his whole skeleton like that, is this something i'm going to be able to see? How long will he be w/out a protective skeleton? As for driftwood, i dont have anything, but i put one of those rock caves towards the back, he's already been sitting inside of it, i havent seen the fish swim through it once yet. Would this be adequate or should i still look for driftwood? Thanks for the info all.

You'll see the exoskeleton and likely swear it's the crayfish dead. My son had dried one and brings it in for show-and-tell. I've never seen the actual shedding process. The new skeleton hardens in a couple of days. The last time mine shedded he lost his large claws. He still eats fine so I'm not concerned and his tankmates are probably relieved.

"Monster" is almost 3 years old now, a good 6 inches long, and hasn't molted in 8 months (the bugger!). In all that time, I've seen him catch 3 fish - a baby pleco, an upside-down catfish about 1.5 bigger than him (I told my GF not to put it in the tank) and a betta. Until today, he was in a 20g with about a dozen other fish - a few plattys, a few black neons, a few scissortails, and a few guppies - and he never caugh one of those. Nor did he catch the bamboo shrimp in there.

Anyways, the moral of the story is... if he gets a hold of it, it's dead.

Mind you, I too have seen oscar's each crays, but they weren't alive at the time...

Wow, he just molted last night! I woke up and before work went to feed them, and i saw it upside down and almost had a heart attack, i was thinking (i just bought this thing and hes already dead!!?) But then i saw him in the cave and remembered what you said above. LOL So now i can take that out of the tank and preserve it? How can i preserve it anyways? Aside from that i dont want to open up another water clearity thread for this question, but if anyone knows i'd be very appreciative....everytime i do a partial water change my water clouds up and NEVER gets clear again until weeks and weeks later after using "jungle" water clear. And that only lasts for about a week before it clouds up again. My 10 gal is always crystal clear i do everything the same in it...WHATS WRONG W/ MY 30 GAL!!!???

Well, I imagine it would just require a dry (non-humid) area to sit in for a while. I have no idea what putting it in a container (closed-lid) would do, but thats an option.

As a side note, 3240 gallons of water is approximately 27,000 pounds. Add a few more pounds on with gravel, driftwood, plant biomass... Basement was a good idea.

I know not of preservation, but I do know that most crayfish will eat their own shell to more quickly replace their own. And given he's in a tank with other, larger fish, this may be a better idea.
