Lobster

I would agree with the paradise fish assessment... they tend to be a bit 'slow and steady', and would be an easy catch for a cray.

Something faster would do, though. I've kept scissortails and black neons with my cray for over a year. They're fast enough to stay out of harm's way.

Neons probably could avoid him, not sure how good it is for them to be on teh run all the time...I noticed that my lobbie usually struck at night when the fish were resting near the bottom...I was "fish" sitting a pair of 5 inch Bala sharks...Figured Mr.Pinchy would never catch the spazzy little things...Two fish in two nights...I couldnt believe he did it, but he did...Needless to say i had to replace them lol

Thanks! I wonder how many people take the profile offered at liveaquaria.com to heart and buy them.

My pf is actually a very busy little thing - she paces almost constantly. But at night she does like to "cave" among the plants. So he'd get her.

Ok, something else to note... different crayfish have different habits. Hammer's cray is just a selective bred procambarus alleni, the most common cray carried by LFSs in the US - it's native to Florida. They're listed as predatory omnivores, and are one of the better fish catchers among crays.

The cray I have is a Cherax quadricarinatus, common name redclaw crayfish, from Australia. They're a bit slower when it comes to catching a fish. They're also one of the few who like the higher temps of an aquarium. Liek I noted, he hasn't caught very many fish in 3 years, and until last week he's always had fish in the tank with him.

Aside from that i dont want to open up another water clearity thread for this question, but if anyone knows i'd be very appreciative....everytime i do a partial water change my water clouds up and NEVER gets clear again until weeks and weeks later after using "jungle" water clear. And that only lasts for about a week before it clouds up again. My 10 gal is always crystal clear i do everything the same in it...WHATS WRONG W/ MY 30 GAL!!!???

Sorry about starting a diff. topic in one thread but i didnt want to open another thread for water problems, i searched and couldnt find anything this specific, anyone have any ideas at all, its still cloudy to this day.

My roomate had a crayfish. It was about 3" when he got it and red. It molted a few times and turned blue one day. It is about 7" long now and has molted a few times, staying blue.

One time when it was molting my roomate scared it and it lurched backwards out of it's shell(swimming away) and lost his claw. His one claw was shrunken for a couple moltings, then it caught up.

He had this thing with a wide variety of fish, including: Red Snakehead, Ropefish, pirhanas, Ornate bichir, cichlids, crabs(it ripped these apart, or just tore off the claws), other crayfish and goldfish...lots of goldfish. He lived in the feeder tank as cleanup crew for the dead ones. He'd stash them under an ornament all the time.

Hey guys, new here, have had my tank set up for about a year now (30gal), i have had some irridescent sharks since they were about 1/2" long, they are now about 5 or 6 inches...which i'm assuming is the max they will get in a 30. Tonight i just bought a Blue lobster though and i searched for some info and a lot of you guys are saying they will eat community fish, well my sharks are kinda like that and they are peacfull, but the lobster is only 3" long right now, and his claws are maybe 1/4" big, question is, will the lobster be able to eat my sharks that are already 5" long? Thanks for any info.

P.S this aqua forum is cool, i'm a car guy and i'm always on jeep and camaro forums, but i never thought about forums for fish tanks. Thanks again for any info.

That aint no lobster,it's a crawfish.
