Hi guys,

As some of you know, I recently setup my 72G bow front planted aquarium(4-5 months ago). Now, I have completed my stocking except for 24 green neon tetras. I have had this koi angelfish for over 1.5 years. I got it when it was about a 1/2 dollar size, and now it is an adult koi angel(5"-6"). Last month, I noticed that on its beautiful pearl white skin, there was a bit of faded silver starting to show(there was only a tiny patch in the same place on both sides. I said nothing, and thought it was just normal or new colors were coming. Now, there is like ~25% of the pearl white on the angel looking like this. Is this normal? And is my angelfish okay? I will try to get pics soon, maybe tonight.

There is nothing wrong in its behavior except that it tends to stay more on the sides of the tank near the intake. Other than that, it is eating fine, peaceful, etc.

The most recent inhabitants I added were 4 yoyo loaches, and 10 dwarf neon rainbows. I am planning to take out the rainbows, and then get the green neons. The rainbows weren't even on my stock list, I just bought them without thinking cuz they were so cheap($1 each) because this guy was doing a major restart in his fishroom(he had a 300G, and like 20 other tanks).

Any questions or suggestions welcome!

thanks

Shiny where, is it gills or fins or random?

Could be a sign of scales scraped off. Maybe fighting, maybe some parasite.

Is it in the exact same spot on both sides? Are the spots the same size? Does it look like an injury or just simply a color change?

thanks for all the replies(^I was kind of impatient up there, sorry)

It is in the kind of same area, but the spots are different sizes. It doesn't look like injury to me as the fish is behaving normally, and is healthy. The colors look good at night, they reflect back, but I don't know if they are normal or not.

It is on the body of the angelfish. I can still see each individual scale under the silverish color. It is the largest fish in my tank, and doesn't fight with anything. It is a peaceful fish.

Could just be from rubbing against its reflection if it is in heat.

I don't get what you are saying. The water temp. is like 82-84. I have 2 GBRs, a school of harlequins, a school of dwarf neons(which I am taking out), 5 corys, 2 plecos, 1 pair Gold Rams, 4 Angels, amanos, upside down catfish, and 2 SAEs.

I will get pics tomorrow for sure.,

If it is in sexual heat. Maybe it's a female trying to disgorge some eggs by mating with her reflection.

If she is on the sides all the time it supports this notion.

^, Now I get what you are saying. But, when I am around(close to the tank), I can see that she/he comes up to the tank right below the auto feeder in hopes of some food. It only stays at the sides of the tank like early in the morning(about 1 hour after turning on lights), and then after lights are off. In between, i do see her at the sides sometimes. I don't think she is a female.(IDK for sure). My other angels(have 2 more, 1 died 2 weeks ago), are perfectly fine. They are about 8-10 months old right now. In 1 of the other 2, i can see here bulging kind of as if she has eggs, as her belly seems bigger than the other angels. I will try to get pics of all of them once I get back from the dentist.

^, and if she is trying to disgorge, wouldn't I see eggs?

thanks
