OK so i think that i let a zoa eating spider into my tank. i bought some zoas off ebay and one of the frags had a very tiny little spider on it. i actually wasn't sure if it was a spider but i now think it was. anywho i didn't know i should have FW dipped them and added them right to my tank. now im afraid this tiny spider is running around when im not looking. what should i do?

Sounds like you have found a little Pycnogonid or sea spider. It should be fairly easy to remove with a siphon. No need for a dip that will stress things out unnecessarily. Interesting animals that feed on polyps using a long proboscis. Just a shame that they actually do harm.

If the spider is only one and can be seen then a siphon will indeed work.
However, if the rock in question harbours more "critters" than the dip would be necessary to prevent the spread.

I dip everything, even new live rock. I don't want any pests running rampid in my 180g.

If you think there is only one spider, than just siphon as mentioned.

Yes. They are pretty specific about what they feed on, so you should see it on the preferred prey item. Mr. Firemouth, that is why I use and prefer quarantine tanks--I would rather avoid something stressful if I can help it. If I can indeed confirm an infestation in quarantine, then I will use a treatment method, but I am not a fan of prophylactic treatment when it comes to new additions.

I've seen some mistake aeolid nudis for spiders. I highly encourage a freshwater dip at the very least. And check for their egg spirals if they are indeed nudis.

I suppose that could be a common mistake. I am just so used to seeing Pycnogonids and the nudibranchs on other things that I can readily tell the difference. The pycnogonids are easily taken care of, however, the nudibranchs are more difficult to get rid of.

it looked pretty much like this (from what i remember, just saw it a second)...

now i'm worried! i think it fell off the frag as i put it in the tank. i left the frags on the sand so they'd open and i could see what was what. the next day i epoxied them onto the rocks. SO, i have no idea where it might be in the tank. i did e-mail the seller and asked him about it and he had no idea what i was talking about :| they are all glued on now i'm not really wanting to dip them but if i have to i have to. :( i didn't even know about this risk (bad hitch hiker), didn't even know i should dip them... man i mad now.
