I noticed there is like a white film (stains) on the inside (on the glass) of my 55 gallon tank. Is this algae, or something else, also when i give it a scrub off the glass it sometimes breaks up and floats in the water. Any idea what it is, and how to keep it from showing up?

What exactly is in this tank? What is the substrate? What is in the filter? Do you know the kh and gh?

How long has the tank been established, and what is your maintenance routine?

substrate is gravel, my ph is 7.0 Its a freshwater tank, it appears to be in its final stages of cycling, my nitrates are 10, nitrites are .25 ammonia i am getting false readings because i added ammo-lock so i do not have those. I heard it could be the calcium in the water? not sure if that is true, i think the best way to describe it is if you lift up your light and on the bottom it sometimes has the white film on it it kinda looks like that if you know what i mean.

i am using a power whisper 60 and 30 filters on my tank with the carbon in the filters. I generally to water changes of 25 percent once a week unless i need to do a bigger one depending if my nitrates, ites and ammonia rises.

Calcium deposits are normal in hard water. It does sound a bit like it is precipitating out of the water. I just don’t think that is likely. I looked quickly at your post and you seem to be having this problewm since you started. The gravel is white. Did you wash it?
The gunk you describe in the filter does it smell?

i've had the same problem as him. i have noticed it where the water level is, and today i scrubed it off, and it floated around the top of the water. i had to get my net and scooop it out. i had no idea on what it was?

sounds like a calcium salt precipitate. you have hard water. i'd not worry about it and scrub it off when it becomes an eye-sore.
