I recently found a spot that has some awesome manzanita branches and wood, have any of you used this in your tanks? I don't to pay for something when I can walk into my back yard and get myself. It's a protected wood here and is illegal to cut but there is tons of it that is dead and have been cut off. Anyone that has a little knowledge on it please let me know. Thanks!
I recently bought a bunch of manzanita from manzanita.com. Awesome, beautiful wood. Doesn't sink quite as fast as malaysian or mopani, but doesn't take long. It has a gorgeous color in the water. I was looking for a large stump and they took several pics of what they had from different angles etc. Extremely easy and nice to work with. I thought their prices were very good as well.

I guess I didn't finish reading your post...LOL Lots of people use manzanita in their tanks. I'm not sure the preparation, but I think mostly no bark, pressure wash and good to go!

That's good to know. I figure I'll sandpaper the bark off and then pressure wash. I'm glad I live in california tons of great manzanita dried roots and all. I'm getting excited!
