Which Gourami?

Those Pearl Gouramis look so much like my Angels. :grinno:

Yes, by blue I meant the 3 spot gourami. I don't intend to breed them so I dont' care if I get a pair. I just want something that will be friendly to my other fish and add some color to the tank. I like the gouramis but was not sure which ones were aggressive and which ones were more passive. Would chocolate gourami work too or are they too aggressive and harder to keep?

IMO--Chocolates are harder to keep.

The blue paradise gourami is also very chilled, and adds some great color. The one I keep right now is very social and doesn't bother my angels or my other gouramis (gold, opaline), when they were all together. I lost the opaline, and put gold in another tank b/c of other issues.

Kissing gourami are also nice.. but they can get huge.
Personally, moonlight gouramis are my favorite... but they need 80 gallons I believ.. my friend has one about 7 inches long!

I'd go with the pearls. They should be OK with your bettas too. My pearl gourami and my male betta don't so much as blink at each other, and neither bother the female bettas.

You might also consider a school of ember tetras or cherry barbs. Very colourful and peaceful fish.

Looks like the consensus is gonna be pearls. The chocolates should be peaceful (from what I hear), but they do have a reputation for being hard to keep alive.

Honey gouramis are a great option, too. They are pretty small at about 1-2", but they have great orange-yellow color. I believe I got a male and a female because the larger one is a pale yellow with some orange around the edges of her fins while the smaller one has much more orange on his fins going into his body and often has a dark blackish spot at his throat area. Anyway, they are not as skittish as I thought they would be and they explore the tank. Though that might be because it's a low light tank with almost complete coverage with floating plants.

However, I'd keep an eye on whatever gourami you get and the bettas since they might get aggressive towards each other since they are related.

I'd get a different tank for the betta and get a group of pearl gouramis. IMO, a flock of pearls moving about the surface of a tank is amazingly beautiful.

Another interesting choice would be croaking or sparkling gouramis, if you can find them. They make audible clicks when excited, defending territory, or mating.

Chocolate and samurai gouramis are a definite no in community tanks. They require soft, acidic water that the platies would not tolerate, and they're very shy.

Honey gouramis are always a pleasure to watch, especially during breeding season. The males' colors rival those of any marine fish.

I have 8 Pearls together in my 120 and they look GREAT!!! I may be moving one out soon because "she" looks very small (compared with the others) and I think is being picked on by the others.
