Went to duane reade today to buy some ammonia for the fishless cycle on my new tank. Couldnt find it anywhere, so asked the lady working there, but she looked at me like i was crazy. At the end i was just glad she didnt call the cops. I have no idea what she THOUGHT ammonia was, ..wtf?

anyway i am done asking people in real life and get those :idea2: looks. So to the good people on aquariacentral, where can i buy it pure ammonia for fishless cycle? I checked supermarket, grocery etc with no luck. What section exactly are bottles of ammonia under? next to the cleaning supplies? soaps? condems? what?

Yah Clear Ammonia from Walmart ($0.99 Walmart brand) with the floor cleaning, not dish cleaning.

I've heard of ammonia being used in homemade bombs -- and in this day and age, I suppose she could have thought you were the next unibomber or something?!

Pure ammonia is MOST OFTEN used as a cleaning agent -- I echo all the Walmart posts already -- and I've seen it in two different grocery stores in my area in the cleaning aisle also.

Sounds good to me. Deionized water is water run through a deionizer column. It pretty much strips anything that has a charge out of the water (salts, nitrates, phosphates ...). I use a deionizer after my RO unit to give me 99.99% pure water. This water does not leave any spots when used to clean stuff (probably why they use it for the ammonia).
