like from what lake? because my cousin SWERES to me that they are either a hybrid or a central american cichlid and my understanding was that they were african cichlids from mbuna. where do they originate?

red zebras are a color morph of regular zebras. They are not hybrids nor are they central american. They are of african descent.
They are not a color morph. They are their own species: Metriaclima Estherae.
They are Mbuna from Lake Malawi in Africa.
You should REALLY upgrade your tank first. Adding the zebras will destroy your tank.
