Can I put all the fish I want in the tank right away without overstocking of course?

Generally after your readings are stable for about a week you can add fish slowly, we added 2 a week until stocked.Adding all the fish at once could cause a mini cycle.....:)

I've been told that yes you can. If you don't want to risk it however, you could always do about 75% of your stock and slowly add the rest.

If you really think about it however...5ppm is a lot of Ammonia, so it should represent a very nice bacterial colony.

What is the point of a fishless cycle then? You could just do that with a regular cycle????

Is your tank cycled, The AMMO and RITES should not exceed 0, if your planing on doing a fishy cycle, do not add all your fish, i would recommend a fishless cycle, unless you can find some established media, any readings of AMMO or RITES can be hamfull.....:)

Your post stated When fishless cycling is done... A fishless cycle means you wont harm fish, and once cycled fish can be added slowly...

As I recall you are getting guppies, platies and some ghost shrimp. I'd put in the guppies, wait a week , make sure the water parameters are still good, then add the platies and shrimp.

What I meant was:

When people do fishless cycling they dose the tank up to 5 ppm Ammonia. When the tank is finished cycling, 5 ppm Ammonia will be consumed within 24 hours. i.e. NO Ammonia, NO Nitrites, just Nitrates left.

Therefore...someone who has cycled their tank in this fashion has artificially represented a large bioload...the kind of bioload that a fully stocked tank would represent.

It's always advisable to add fish slowly.....:)

I understood what you meant, but I have to say I still agree with Weeser. Why take the chance of harming fish, when stocking slowly is a safer bet?
