Hello all,

I'm moving into a house about 40 miles away and I was wondering what the best way to move fish. I have two tanks so it seems as though I have a rough task at hand. Can fish survive in a bag for an hour or more? What's the longest a fish can live in a bag?

Another thing that sucks is that I won't be able to cycle the tanks. About the best thing that I can think of is just keeping all of the filter media and ortaments wet.

I have a 55 gallon brackish water tank and a 30 gallon fresh water tank. I could also ask the LFS to hold my fish for a couple days. I'm not sure that they'll do that though.

Any recommendations or comments are appreciated.

you COULD have the LFS do it, but that doesnt mediate the travel situation, only the setting up of the tanks.

as for traveling, a 5g bucket with a lid or a large rubbermaid will be nice.. .an air stone or small stingray filter for circulation will do for aeration/filtering.

Don't use styrofoam packaging and a cardbaord box...it'll leak.

I have to travel about 60-70 miles to the nearest LFS with any kind of decent selection and presentable tanks. Any time me or my family gets fish it's at least 90 min before the fish get in the tank. It's never been a problem with healthy fish. I always tell them to put each fish in it's own bag.

well when I moved my 20 gal, heres how I did it:

I put about 70% of the tank water in 2 5gal buckets and sealed them and then put the fish in bags with tank water and left the filter in the tank still wet and left some water in the tank. I was only moving about 25min away though and had everything up and running within an hour but it worked out but next time I think I will try and have another tank running before hand...

I put mine in an ice chest with tank water. Seemed to hold the temp pretty well. When I got to the new location, I put a heater and air stone in with the fish until the tank was ready for them.

Thanks for the responses! I just noticed while looking for this thread, that someone else had asked pretty much the same question.

I will consider all of the options that you guys have givin me.
