Can you break up a moss ball and attach it to driftwood or is it best just left hanging out on the ground?

i think most people leave them hanging out on the ground. I have seen a few people break them up as well though.

Same here. In order to maintain the ball shape, you'll need to roll it periodically.

i broke up one of my moss balls and it looks like crud now. i haven't attatched it to anything although i have been thinking of it since i saw someone who had done it and it looked pretty cool. i like them better when they are round though. if you are gonna do that i'd look for some deformed ones and see if i could get them at a discount.

I accidently sucked up my marimo ball and it ripped. tons of dusty water came out the center. it was a funny shape, so I broke it up in pieces. some pieces actually grew back together. but they are slowly growing and forming a ball again.

I attached some javamoss on a piece of drift wood, and its growing now, slowly

Most of the time, the center of Marimo balls are mud and debris.

The debris caught by marimo balls is pretty much an all-you-can-eat buffet for shrimp. Also, the some fish sleep on it, since it's fluffy-ish.
