Just wondering what is the right approach to a pet store when you buy several fish of the same species and one dies within a couple of days?

Is it ok to ask for another or for a discount?

Or do you blame yourself for not inspecting the frailty of the fish in the first place?

I am beginning to be able to pick them after a couple of issues with two shops.

I would just take the dead fish back. If it has been a couple of days, they will give you a refund or exchange, granted that you have the reciept.

Also, don't forget to take a water sample of your tank water as they want to make sure that your tank water is okay for the fish.

Don't add the water sample in w/ the fish! ;o

Check your receipt, usually the return policy is printed on it. Around here you have to bring in the dead fish (but ime they never look at it  )and sometimes a water sample, in a seperate container.

Yep......:dance2:

i know most chains like petco and petsmart have something like 15 day gaurantees on livestock, as long as you bring in a sample of water.

my problem is the best store around here(practically has everything you could want) doesnt offer any gaurantee, so you gotta take your chances.

Water check done same time as purchase

I had a water check that day, Nitrates up slighty, zero ammonia and high hardness as these new "lyre tail swords", of which one died, were sharing a tank with some Electric Yellow "Cichlids". I asked questions and was told this would be fine for the new Swords.

Bummer, I have already bin'd the fish! No taking her back to the shop.

Though, I will have a chat with the aquarium shop people. Thanks for the advice. :dance2:
