What kinds of fish should I get for a 2.5 gallon aquarium?

Why are you saying that bettas like small tanks. When I put my betta from it's little bitty cup to it's nice 5 gallon he was swimming around having fun. After a few days his colors looked soo nice. IMO 5 gallons is the min. tank size for a betta. It's not bad putting 2 betta in with a divider. It gives them another fish to look at. I've heard that if you keep a betta by itself with no fish anywhere or near a mirror it gets them depressed.

This is the number one betta site. It says you can put a betta in 1-5 gallons.

Yes but I still think it's cruel how bettas are put in small bowls. I treat bettas like any other fish. They can SURVIVE in small tanks but that doesn't mean they like it.

Wait I just saw something on your post. Go down on bettatalk and look at seperated tanks. Hmmm nothing about stress.

Um, I'm sorry, but I don't see how a betta would be happier in a 1 gallon tank compared to say, a 10 gallon. My betta wasn't moving around at all when she was kept in those small bowls at the fish store. Now she swims all over the tank and is very active. I don't see what the problem is there.
Yes, that site (which is very good) says to put them in 1-5 gallons, but she also didn't say that a larger tank has any negative effects. It's just not very common or practical for people to keep a single betta in like, a 20 gallon.

Interesting it seems an experienced fish keeper siad it wasn't bad to keep bettas in seperated tanks.

Uh, bettas live in slow flowing streams, ponds and rice paddies. Why in the world would they get SCARED in anything bigger than that? How silly. My betta lives in a ten gallon and will soon be upgrading to a 55 and he is having a blast. In fact, the betta I had before was enjoying his ten gallon to himself and then I had to downsize him to a bowl until he was ready to go back in(QT) and he was pretty much a downer about it. When he went back in his ten gallon, he was overjoyed.

I ran around yahoo answers by the way trying to correct the idiocy that is spewed around on there. Those people rarely know anything. A few have extensive knowledge and everyone else is just ignorant.

if they even know what they are.... :p:

this is why i like reading books for info and experiences i have had and then comparing with info on the web to see what is real and whats not. all of the books i have read say that bettas need at least 5 gallons. on the web anybody can go and post things, and most of the time on sites like this one there are people with really good info, but there are also people that swaer by the rules given to them by their LFS that dont work, like the aquarium salt and gallon/ inch garbage started by some comercial chains :thud:
