What kind of filter?

I run 4 HOT Mags on my 2 tanks and there is no noise from them.

I personally like the Aquaclear filters if you want a HOB filter.

What are you thinking for substrate for the plants?
CO2? pressurized or DIY?
Lighting - LED, T5, T5HO?
What plants are you thinking?
What else are you thinking of stocking with besided the pleco?
(What kind of pleco is it?)

Just a few things to keep in mind for a planted tank.

Personally, I love the Flourite Black Sand for my plants.
I dose flourish chemicals and starting to use some dry ferts to keep the plants healthy.
This is a great size tank to work with, hope you enjoy the tank.

I've had great success in my 29 gallon with using eco-complete, low light plants and no CO2. I intend to pretty much stick with the same for this, as this is mostly going to be a fish tank with a few plants. I haven't decided yet on what else I'm keeping in it other than the bushy nose pleco. He needs a real home and I'm tired of the fry that is over populating my 29g. Besides the filter I'm probably going to go with LED lighting on this tank, those are the only things I'm really changing out. If I end up breaking down the 29 the 3 bloodfin tetras and 1 rosy barb I have left will move into the 40, Then I will add to them and keep it a community.
