What fish like tall tanks?

I have a 47 gallon tall tank that is heavily planted with some kind of grassy plant. I've had a lot of problems with algae and it's a lot of maintenance so I was going to get rid of the tank. I have another in the basement and didn't have the time to keep up with them both.

I've had the tank up for sale so I've had all the lights off for weeks. I turned the lights on this morning and the plants look great so I'm thinking of changing the lights to something light so I won't have the algae problem.

My question is: besides anglefish and discus, what other fish like a tall tank? I might give this one last shot before getting rid of the tank.

Well, the tall fish like tall tanks, but you could always have a variety of fish to occupy each level of the tank. For example, school of 8 cories for the bottom, a school of tetras or centerpiece like an angel for the middle, and a school of 8 hatchets for the top. This tall type of tank would more clearly show the definition of those levels unlike most standard tanks that are longer than they are all and tend to blur those lines.

Or you can just do CO2 on your planted tank and you wouldn't have issues with algae because of the high light. If you have to much light for your plants you need algae.

If you want to go with the tall tank I would think of tall fish, angels, discus, fish like that.

I think I remember reading that Mollys like tall tanks, mine do.

the different levels are the way to go. the tank can not support a colony of discus (they like to have friends) and at full growth could not support more than one angel.

i would sudgest you go with some hatchets at the top. a tetra like an ember tetra, or danios (not standard). look danios up and you will find, after a little research there some really cool ones out there. not just the type you find in you local fish store. or instead of danios theres also small rabora that would do good. as bottom dwellers i would go with a type of cory and a albino bn pleco.... show fish could also be something like a gorami. (not my fist choice though)

I agree with clearly defining the "zones of inhabitance" with different groups of fish.

Hatchets for the top, a school of tetras or something similar for the middle with maybe an angelfish for show (footprint is limited, maybe a pair?), and then with some corys for the bottom.

I dunno. I think I'd go with all lampeye killies... my norman's lampeyes are all over the tank, and are really fun to watch. you could probably have 50 or 60 of them with no problem, which would be really bright.
