Wal-Mart??

I just want to say that in all honesty I would guess roughly 60% or more of all bettas that are marketed for Aquariums never live past the betta cup stage. Sorry, but that is my guess. I have yet to be in a LFS--Mom and pops, Aquarium Wolrd, Village Pets, PetCo, PetSmart, Wal-mart, etc that did not have discolored dying bettas in it. So rescuing one fish from walmart is a service to that fish. It removes him from the unamed masses that die in transport or while waiting to sell, which is probably true of most fish in our neat little hobby.

BTW, don't blame the stores. It is the nature of the beast. No one here is gonna pay $40.00 for a betta that was shipped in a 10 gallon aquarium with great filtration. Can you imagine how much you would have to pay for a cichlid that was shipped in ideal conditions.

So some Wal-marts are self service while others are not. Interesting. If you ever check on youtube, theres a video of wal-mart. These people are going to buy some fish. They find the bags to put the fish in, but before putting the fish in, they get some sink water into the bag. Then they put the fish in. Sad, those fish are probably dead right now.

Poor bettas at wal-mart. I saw 3 or 4 dead in their cups and 1 was deformed. Krill was left at the bottom of their cups. I saved a Yellow/Green veiltail male and a Red/Black crowntail female. I'll save some guppies next time.

I heard a sad story yesterday from a man who owned 4 koi. These were show quality koi who grew to 17 inches and he had them since 1987. He went to walmart bought 2 fish, put them in there with the koi and 2 koi died ;( the walmart fish had fungus and rapidly spread to the koi. the koi were to acclimated to a high quality environment. the man may have been a fool to not quarantine the hell out the fish before he bought it but the koi could've lived longer. case and point "walmart fishkeeping is terrible" it is like watching dogs rescued to go to humane society :( they should shut down their practice of fish keeping

sorry to bash but i felt sad for those koi. But the walmarts near my area are poor when it comes to fish. just my .02 but maybe your walmarts are well kept like a high quality lfs

Make it self service, and write the UPC Code for the 13 cent goldfish on the bag. ^^ ALL FISH 13 CENTS ON SALE! =P

It isn't self service, they just have bad employees. There was a guy at one near me putting all the feeder goldfish in a bag. I told an employee and she went and asked him if he needed assistance to which he replied "these are fish food, so F off, I know what i'm doing." I really hate walmart because of the customers, lowest of the low.
