Someone just called me with this questions, to which I do not know the answer to.

Can two breeding pairs of Angelfish exist in same 55g tank?
I guess it's a good sign people think I am enough of a aquarium freak to get calls like this, but I know nothing about fish breeding, and have never owned a breeding pair of anything,.

Here's the deal. This person has an existing breeding pair of Angels in a 25 gal tank. They just purchased a 55 gal tank (dont know where), which has another breeding pair of Angels. They are looking to consolidate the fish into the 55g, and then use the smaller tank to raise fry from both pairs.
What do you guys think, would this be possible? I am thinking it might work, but personalities of the indiviual males may decide one way or the other. The person asking the question (I think) is looking for one of two answers (1) This *might* work fine, or (2) This would never work in a million years.

Thanks for any help!

with the right set up ...yes.
you do not need dividers but you need to monitor the fish.
the problem will come if one pair fights with the other for prime breeding spots.
if you set the tank up and allow for them to establish territoy you may find that 2 pair can live in a 55..but you need to be diligent and keep a watchful eye out .
angels are very aggressive when spawning..particulalry with other Angels.

that said I have 2 breeding pair in a 55 that have co existed for 4 years in the same tank.
and they have both bred successfully.
oddly you may find that parents of one brood will take care of the other parents brood.
mine have spawned at the same time before and the pairs keep stealing each others babies.
structure in the tank is very important to the pairs
;)
