I am thinking of starting my first fish tank while i am at college. I want to get one tire track eel to begin with. I will get some gravel and some rocks for them to hide, as i have read it will need this. i plan on keeping it in a 50 gallon tank and feed it earth worms. is there anything wrong here? is there anything i am missing? and how long will i be able to keep it in a 50 gallon tank. please respond as soon as possible with as much information as you can!!! thank you so much! -A

Sorry, but a tire track eel will get too big for that size tank.
Can you post the dimensions of the tank? There are other spiny eels that get smaller and would be fine in that size tank: peacocks, zigzags, and (depending on the dimensions) fire eels.
Sand if preferable over gravel, as all these species love to dig.
Also, earthworms are great, but they need variety. I suggest also feeding sinking pellets, and other live and frozen food.
Be sure to keep up on water changes, and make sure to cycle the tank.

also, they need plenty of hiding places, and are very shy. as well as earthworms, you may want to try feeder guppies or frozen fish and shrimp as well.
yeah, raising your own is a good option if you don't want to QT the gups or gut load them. it's not necessary to feed live prey, but it seems to be good for the eels mental status in captivity.
it's a practice more frequently seen when feeding reptiles live food. it's where you feed the prey item a great amount of nutritious food before giving it to your pet, therefore increasing its nutritive value.
