Ok I Have 4 New Black Skirt Tetras.. I Bought Them 3 Days Ago And Their Fin Were White The Next Day I Noticed They Were Getting Darker. Yesterday They They All Had All Black Fins. Today I Did A 25% Water Change And Added Stress Coat To Remove The Chlorine And I Now Notice Their 2 Tetras Fins Turned White, 1 Is Becoming White And The Other One Is Black(hasnt Changed) ? Im Almost Sure It Has Something To Do With The Water Change? Im Not Sure What I Did Wrong? The Water Was About The Same Temperature. Im Not Sure Help Anybody?

Actually, it sounds like you got "Painted" Tetras.

Some people are very un-ethical and inject dye & coloring into the fish to give it a different look.

I'd take them back to whatever LFS you bought them from and buy new Black Skirts from a different place!

Yes, Black Skirt Tetras are supposed to have BLACK fins!

PEACE!

You really think they were painted? i mean they were white when i put them in the fishtank 4 days ago and then they changed to black and after a water change today their fins are somewhat white again...

well, if they were white when you bought them, they are either painted or extremely stressed. Stress can cause the color to disappear, but if that's the case, I'd be leary about that LFS that you bought them from. or were their fins black when you bought them?

ok they are NOT painted, if they were, then they would stay one color...
black tetras change color all the time, if they are stressed, they usually are lighter, if they are fine, they get darker, but the 'stress' could be anything from someone walking by the tank to a waterchange, and is nothing to worry about (unless they are constantly pale) a lot of fish do this and it is very neat to watch in some fish.

tetrafreak, painted fish are the ones that look like they are candy-colored... and black fish are usually not targeted...

Yea I Noticed The Fin Frequently Changes From Black To White.. When I Turn The Light On They Scatter And Their Fins Turn White. Then About 30 Mintues Later You Can See Them Starting To Turn Black Again.. This Is Very Cool. I Was Just A Lil Freeked Out, I Dont Want To Cause The Fishies Any Harm.. Thanks
