When i took my driving class, if we were a minute late they wouldnt let us in, and you had to come back in two weeks when that class came back around in the schedule. You shouldnt be allowed to miss a class and be allowed to take the permit test. Driving is putting your life and everyone else's life around you in your hands. Not something to be taking lightly.

Thats what I thought. I didnt miss a single minute of class.

I think anyone can take the permit test even before taking the class. But around here you need to have the class and behind the wheel with an instructor before you can take the driving test. Oh and at least 50 hours of driving logged on a sheet with at least I think 8 of them (dont quote me on that) being night hours. And at least 9 months since you got your permit.

Around here schools don't offer the class anymore, you have to take it privately.

My school is really small (only about 500 people) so they don't offer drivers ed. I need to go to a school nearby. I could have started about 2 months ago, but I am just being lazy.

I never heard of having to take classes for it until my kids were required to take them. I taught our the kids how to drive and insisted that they learn to drive a manual transmission. I wouldn't let them drive or test in a car with an automatic. I felt that if they couldn't drive stick, they couldn't drive. It paid off and they all later thanked me for teaching them to drive stick. Once they tested out I didn't care what they drove as long as they drove safely. None of them took the test more than once. American tests are pretty simple. For a difficult test, try to take the test in England or Europe. It was common for people to fail the test a few times and few could pass the test on the first attempt. I got all the road signs correct (they gave you 100 signs from a pool of 250) and think I missed 5 on the written (don't remember how many is pass/fail but is real easy to fail). I remember that we had to pass or pass retest and if we failed that we had to retake the classes. Most failed at least 3 times before passing. There were only 5 of us out of 25 that passed first time.

The biggest problem with SUV, 4WD, is that people think that having 4WD they can stop on a dime which isn't true at all. 4WD doesn't let you stop any better than 2WD does. The only advantage to AWD/4WD is in starting off and maintaining better control on slippery roads. It comes down to the quality of your tires and tire tread design.

Ugh parents. Think the only thing I care about is school and going to college. They are all pissy because I dont express any interest in taking big test and going to the library (where my mom works) to study for a test I wont take until the end of next year! Plus she bought me a book on SAT studying, but I dont take the SAT I have to take the ACT. Different test. We do act prep in just about every class that I am in. Studying now would be a waste of time and money bc I will forget everything by the time I take the stupid test. And they want me to go to the university of duluth (where they went) because they can get in state prices for me since they went there. Well, umd is not near what the university of Illinois is for the field I want to pursue in life. Sure it is more expensive, but it would probably be better in the long run. I have a bank account my parents have been putting money in since I was like 5 so I would have money to put to a car when I turn 16. Yep a whole $300, around here that will buy you something that has been in like 5 wrecks and is half held together by duck tape if you are lucky. Then my parents try to blame me for not putting money in. Well, when I was 5 years old and you started it and "explained" it to me, the way I took it was there would be enough to buy a used car in the account. Explaining banking to a 5 year old doenst work! I guess I should be lucky I get that much and they express interest in my school and future life. But right now is not the time. I just got all new teachers and some new classes, I still have a lot to do for science olympiad especially if we make it to state. I still have pets to take care of, homework to do. The list goes on and on. It is a wonder I find myself at my computer at all anymore. I finally get to see how my rc car does at the track after throwing $200 more into it over the past month or so. The ONLY time I get to do anything outside of school with my friends seems to be with rc. So if my parents dont drag me to some stupid study thing for a test I am not taking for over a year, I should get to have a little fun for the first time in 5+ weeks. Sorry to rant, but I need to. I wonder if the space will show up between that paragraph and this sentence.

Mine are the same! I have the stereotype "high expectation Asian parents". I know that they are trying to do whats best, but it would be nice for them to loosen up a bit. Of course, at the moment they are not very happy with my. As a freshmen, I was allowed to take a PSAT, and I got an 1800, not as high as they had hoped....

errrrmm..grow up a bit...might help all...

Sorry, but I needed to vent that. Plus the edit buttons doesnt seem to be working. I know they are trying to do what is best, but it is at the worst time and in the worst way. They do things and say things like they mean for them to be bad. I do decent in school, mostly A's and B's. I wish I could just let them live my life for one day. Paying for me to study for a test I wont take for another year doesnt make sense. I wont remember anything from it by then AND I will probably forget what I am learning now in school in order to "make room" for the studying stuff. Hence my normal grades would go down.
