Tank Mates for 55G....

I want to add some fun to my 55G live/fake planted tank. 2' highx12"deep x 4' long...Big mobani wood in middle, caves, slate, etc...

Current Stock:

7 Rummynose Tetras
2 Creamsicle Molly's ( male and female)
1 Albino longfin bushynose baby pleco
2 Cocaktoo Dwarf Chiclids (male and female)
3 Mystery snails

"considering" adding our male betta to the mix?????maybe maybe not

Everyone gets along very well--no problems...

I am looking at:
Cory's
Upside down cats (the tiniest ones)
Top (very top) dweller (if betta doesn't fly)
and what else?????

Looking for suggestions....don't want to stock to max capacity, but would like a little bit more for looks and fun.

Upside down cats (the tiniest ones)
Top (very top) dweller (if betta doesn't fly)
and what else????? I'm not sure that the betta would work.. Hatchetfish are (very) top dwellers though. I'm pretty sure they're compatible but you should get a second opinion..

I would not put a betta in with anything that has long fins such as the long finned bristlenose pleco. Yes this does include the pleco. The betta will see anything with long fins as a potential rival and will start to fight with it often times to the death.

Stocklist is fine. Add cories and then some hatchets and pencilfish for surface.

Maybe an angel & some corys. The betta mollie mix seems iffy to me.

i would get some more rummynose to up the school to at least 12, with 16 probably being better.

Which is the upside down cat that stays the SMALLEST? How can I make sure it is the right one?

I have been shooting around getting the Black Diamond Cory (very small-mid level not as much bottom action)

1 angelfish is what i am finding out---will they mess with/terrorize the rummies?

Heard that Hatchets love to jump-pull the old carpet surfing gig.

Killifish stay at the top----but they are not the best community fish are they?

You did ask a question if it is fine or not. This is very tricky with long-finned species, not to mention inquistive mollies around. You can try it but if it doesn't work, consider putting it in a tank by itself.

If you mean the Synodontis nigriventris, it is fine but cories are far better options than a synodontis.

They'll be fine.

You'll need floating plants and hood.

Keep in mind, that the upside catfish pretty much hides all day. We have one, and see it about every month or so. Actually, we thought it had died, but we found where it hides.

Hatchets love to go carpet surfing so if you do end up getting them, make sure the top of the tank is completely closed off. They will find the tiniest space to jump out of such as the small spaces we often leave if we are running a HOB filter. Other then that they are great fish and very peaceful. They are great top swimmers who rarely occupy any other part of the tank other then the very top.
