Well, i used to have a male in the tank but he died righ before my last batch of fry were born. A bout a week or so later, it looked like the moms were pregnant again but there is no male in the tank. Its not bad or anything, I'd just like to know how the heck it happened!!!

the females can store the males sperm in there body, they might have a few more births with the stored sperm before they wont give any more births. I think that is how it goes....... (correct me if i am wrong)

That is correct. You can just buy one female and end up with about three batches of babies.

yup correct..and for a good amount of time as well.

Live-bearers... the 'bunny rabbits' of the aquarium hobby. :P

I've read that they store sperm for approx. 6 months. If she mated just before your male died, count on maybe another 6 batches of babies.

Honestly, it depends on how much sperm she stored when he was alive. It could be 1 batch or 3 or 6. So who knows?

i have a molly that has given birth 4 times and i do not have a male... i think she was the hot mama of the tank i got her from cuz she is going to have babies again

or the promiscuous one. ;)

the only way ive ever been able to keep female guppies without having them get pregnant is to raise them from birth in a female-only tank.
