spilled some nasty fish water on my carpet...

Ewww. I agree, rent or borrow a carpet shampooer and buy some good cleaner to put in the machine. I'd also go ahead and febreze the carpet after it is clean and dry.

if you want a fix in a can, spray and vac or carpet cleaner

Why should I worry so much of spilling water in a carpet? To my understading, aquarium water will dry it self and leave no residue. About germs, any aquatic patogen will die as soon as it gets dry.

Fabreeze is a no no in a house with Fish tanks. It is notorius for going airborne and cusing fish to do the Motionless backfloat. I do not allow it to cross the threshold No way No how.

Depending on quantities Towel it dry like you would any other spill. Germs are not an issue beyond any normal consideration because most of the critters in our tanks will die when dry as mentioned.

If it is a large quantity, Rent a Carpet shapooing machine from the local Megalo Mart and use it to suck the carpet dry, and clean-up. Baking soda will work wonders on the odors if there are any when you are done. Just sprinkle the Baking soda on the area let it set overnight and then vaccum it up. Repeat as needed.

I splash around all the time. Once it's dry no biggie.
I agree with Doll..Resolve is the best. I've gotten magic marker, fingernail polish and grease out of carpet with it...and innumerable dog accidents.
But it's not needed for this.

it wasn't too much, just a few sploshes here and there. my main concern was the germs if there was anything to worry about.
