Hello,
I have 3 silver dollar around 1.5" long the top fin is yellow in colour, one of them the fin looks like got burn and a little bit white and part of it look like got a bit by other fish.
I test the water yesterday and is good. I make a 45% water change today on a 25 gals tank and add 2 spoon of sait in, 15ml coppersafe,1/2 cap full of brite n clear and 10 ml of melaFfix

am I doing it right ? sometime my fish die with no reason. LFS tell me I need more sait for this type of fish. He said next time put a little more sait will save them.

Thanks !

what are your water params (nitriate, nitrite, ammonia)? any nipping or aggression between them?

also, did you cycle and if so how?

by "sait" do you mean salt? salt is not needed unless treating for ich or creating a brackish tank (which requires marine, not aquarium salt)

I agree with that, but salt can help cure many more diseases, other than ich, at least IME.

yeah, however I do not believe that "fin rot" is one...

All this just for finrot? I would never try dosing meds unless I am sure this was indeed finrot. Besides, not all fish can take to the meds well.;) Please post your water parameters instead of comments. Answer Jpappy's post.

I don't think the lfs was giving you proper advice. When a fish dies, try to determine your water parameters and recall plenty of things you did on your tank.

Thank you for all of you to reply me so quick.

This tank setup been years. I just test the water again for both of my tank one is 100 gals with 36 neon, and 10 guppies and the 25 gal tank with 3 silver dollars that I purchase at least 3 weeks ago plus a couple of africian fish don't know what they call is all orange in color. I change water around 40 - 50 % every 7 - 9 days

Ammonia 0 ppm (clear)
Nitrite 0 ppm (very lite blue)
Ph 7.6 or hight (blue)
I even test the water out from the tape is blue too. So I guest the water in my area will more on the Alkaline side.

Do I have to get something to add to the water to drop is more on the acid side. Since Neon like more acid water ?

I have 2 big plastic tank sit in the basementhold around 80 gals in total and run with heater around 78F to keep the water warm and the water age a least 7 days.

I been adding a little coppersafe, brite n clear, melafix and salt everytime I change the water everyweek ( Am I doing right ) with a small amount to make sure. Just in case

I purchase topicial fish from that store for years and years. I think he ask me to put salt in. Is because he said this type of fish like a little more salt. Sound like the fish like living in more alkaline base water. I usually have 3 hsilver dollar before I purchase this three for replacement. They all die almost the sametime. And I didn't add salt inwhile change water for 2 - 3 months.

I ask him, why the fish die and I see there is a little bit white on the fin and they don't eat. So he told me I need salt.

I monitor that silver dollar and see what happen. Anyway can I put this 3 small silver dollar inti my neon tank ( I guess not)

There is no need to fiddle with your pH. If the neons appear fine, then keep it that way.

I would never add all those chemicals other than dechlorinator for every water change unless deemed necessary.

Chances are he seems adding salt every time he changes his water which is not necessary at all. It is, in my opinion, a waste of time and money unless needed.

What is the appearance of his poo? Was there nipping observed at all?

no not at all

will this three silver dollars will kill my neon ? Since I think they will look better with them.

You haven't answered my question about its poo. I don't think I've ever seen silver dollars killing a neon tetra assuming yours is full-grown (neon) but I would never try it with my own. It sounds risky to try but if you want to give it a go, then it's up to you.

I am not very sure about your question about His Poo ?
he is not really nipping but not as active like other and swim slower and don't eat.
