I have a 10 gallon that is moderately planted with 3 watts per gallon. I set up a Hagen C02 system recently, but I still have some algae to deal with. My tank currently has:
1 male betta
m/f pair of Golden Wonder Killies
3 panda corys
2 Chinese Hillstream Loaches (aka Borneo Suckers)

I know I'm overstocked, so no more fish. When I get a bigger tank in the next year, the killies will move to a bigger home. Right now they are all doing well, except the male killi is trying to sex up the female killi all the time. The Betta and male Killi hang out a bunch!

I want to deal with the algae, and I don't want to use chemicals. Will Cherry Shrimp work in this tank? How many? Will the Killies or Betta eat them? I'd like to get Amano Shrimp, but they aren't available. Thanks!

If you want to combat algae, the only effective way IMHO is to get either an aquarium sponge, a magnet algae cleaner, or any other kind of non-fish algae cleaner your local fish store may have. I would'nt add anything else to the tank, as you yourself even said your overstocked, and I have to agree with you.

I agree with dorkfish. I wouldn't consider putting anything else into that tank. The "algae eaters" don't do well with that kind of algae anyhow. My algae eating shrimp won't touch it in the 29 gallon. My bristlenose plecos don't touch it anymore in my 55 gallon. I rub and pull it off with my fingers a couple of times a month.
Take care,
Mary.

sex is what killies do, so that's no surprise ;) I'm not as familiar with the golden wonders as I'd like to be, but I think they are non-annuals, which means that as frisky as they are, they aren't as frisky as an annual would be. also most killies are fine in very small tanks, and you will frequently hear of breeders who normally keep their killies in 1-2 gallon containers. I know it doens't help the overcrowding in your tank, but I juts thought I'd throw that one out there. one final interesting note about killies is they tend to like room temperature water, around the low 70s.

just some FYI. ;) if you'd like to learn more about them check out the american killifish association

Hello all! My female killi is going back to the LFS, because I think she gets stressed out by the male. Can I add two ottos in place of the female killifish? I'd like to do shrimp, but the male killi is a carnivore. This is what I'd like to do . . .

1 male betta
1 male golden wonder (A. lineatus)
3 panda corys
2 Chinese Hillstream Loaches (aka Borneo Suckers)
2 ottos

Golden wonders can be reasonably aggressive, and since they can hit 4", you will need to choose tankmates carefully....I would not trust them to not eat shrimp.
