So I have a 55 gallon stand and tank right now, but the stand is made for 55-75 gallon tanks its like this one ( http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752311 ) but a little different.

L x W x H
48" x 18" x 21" dimensions of a 75 gallon tank ( 850 lbs )
48" x 18" x 24" dimensions of a 90 gallon tank ( 1050 lbs )

On petsmart's website it says the stand supports upto 900 lbs... the only difference with the 75 to 90 gallon is the height...

Would it be fine or big mistake?

On that particular press board stand, I would not, unless I did some reinforcement.

It could be fine, or it could be a big mistake, do you really want to find out. I sure wouldn't.

Buying any stand built of particle board is a big mistake. It's strong enough dry but if it gets wet..... You do plan on putting water in the tank right? Stuff happens.

It is very easy to make a stand out of 2x4s in about an hour or two. I'd go with that option first. The 90 fully loaded is running close to 1000 lbs.

That stand seems like it has one fatal flaw - why does it have legs like that? If it the whole bottom were laying flat, and the back was made of real plywood, I would have more confidence in it...however, particle board can't be modified any more than tempered glass can be drilled.

I don't mean to sound offensive, but IMO that stand is ugly anyway. It would be perfect for an aquarium in the nursing home...

This is much cleaner and the same price:

I personally wouldn't do it because of the bolded portion. Not sure I'd even be comfortable putting a 75 on there for that reason.

Seems like a no-brainer to me.

If you want to do some type of trial place enough weights that will equal the the weight of the 90gal set up and see what happens.
