I noticed today two of my bala's swimming erradically together side-by-side for 2-3 min in what I can only figure to be mating (I've never seem them do this before). I am considering setting up my 10g just to house the mother (they are both only 2.5 inches), but I have no idea how to tell which is which? Anyone out there know, or are bala's impossible to tell?

I read somwhere that females have a fuller, fatter body and the males are slimmer..I forgot where I read that at but it was somewhere..

How big are your sharks? If they are not mature they wouldn't be spawning. Also aren't balas are egg layers? There would be visible eggs (I assume, don't answer that watermelon I don't believe anything you post anyways) so you would definitely know if they were mating.

Hey you big TROLL..You never kept Balas or even had one..And I have kept Balas for 10 years..I was wondering who knows about the fish? Me or you?

...and you've had how many successful spawns in your undersized tanks with your stunted fish? NONE? Shocking.

If you have let's see some pictures! I'm sure you've had TONS of spawning going on, but all of the pics got lost or something.

People who misinform are WORSE than trolls. My "trolling" targets people like YOU, people who advocate and perpetuate the suffering of aquarium fish.

How about we get more information now and help the nice person rather than turning this into another brouhaha. Unless you really want some more?

If you were educated about bala sharks, you would know that balas have never bred in captivity in an aquarium..They are bred in large numbers in South East Asia in large ponds with hormones thou..Guess you did not know that did you? Well ignorance, does play a role in your logic..

Well see, though it was like pulling teeth, you actually contributed something to this thread. The poster now does not have to worry about their balas mating.

If you are so smart, why haven't balas ever bred in an aquarium Mr. Melon?

Could it be because an aquarium is not an appropriate setting for balas? Because breeding size balas do not fit in a typical aquarium?

Would this prove you wrong on the other topic as well? Stop being such a whiner.

If you were an educated person about fishes, you would know that not all species of fishes breed in an aquarium..The bala shark is one of them..I read of one or two isolated incidents but balas do not breed in an aquarium..They are bred in large ponds in south east asia for the aquarium fish trade..And even in large ponds in close to more than 2000 gallons or so, they do need help with hormones to induce spawning...Now you did not know that did you? You see, I know my stuff about Balas..And the information I gave you is by research..

Why do you need to keep antigonizing the guy. You just proved in your first post on this thread that you dont have the answer.
