Hi,

I just bought a 100ml bottle of Seachem Prime for the first time as I have heard very good things about it but I want to get the directions for use correct before I add it...

I just want to confirm that when using it you are only treating the amount of 'new' water that is going into the tank so if 5ml of Prime treats 50 gallons and I am changing 10g of water then I only use 1ml.. right.??

The thing thats confusing me is on the bottle it says if you are adding the Prime directly to the tank water base dosage upon aquarium volume which in my case would be 6mls (60G)...

I use a hose to refill my aquarium and generally fill a bucket with 'new' water and add the amount of conditioner I need for only the water I am changing.. then I pour this mix gradually into the tank as it is refilling...

Should I just do the same with the Prime and add 1ml (10G) to a bucket and add gradually or do I need to add 6mls (60G) directly to the tank as it is re-filling?

Sorry for making something so simple sound so complicated but I just want to make sure not to over/under dose...

Many thanks and merry Xmas!

I have been told that you can't overdose on Prime. I just measure the amount of prime into a 2 gallon bucket with water to treat the entire amount of water I am replacing. I put it in before I add the untreated water. It says it works instantly and I have never had a problem.

I always add just a bit more than what is absolutely necessary just because it gives me piece of mind. I typically just use a measuring syringe and inject as I put the water in.

Been doing it that way for as long as I can remember with no problem.

Your bucket plan sounds great.

If you are using the bucket to refill, you treat the amount in the bucket. If you are using the hose into the tank, you dose the prime to total tank volume.

Thanks guys.. Half say dose the volume and half say dose the amount thats going in..lol.. but both have not reported any problems... Prime is quite expensive here so for me the preferable way for cost effectiveness would be obviosuly just to treat the amount of replacement water... 100ml is €14.00 here...

If you are using the bucket to refill, you treat the amount in the bucket. If you are using the hose into the tank, you dose the prime to total tank volume.

Is there a hug difference if I use my bucket idea and just dose the amount I am replacing?

since i started using prime, my tanks are alot clearer
