I was looking into small fish for my 5.5 gallon tank, and these little buddies popped up. I realize that the recommended tank size is around 8 gallons, but I was wondering if my 5.5 could become a cozy home for 1 or 2.

Does anyone have any experience with this species?

You can usually only find males and males like to fight, sometimes to the death. One male will certainly prevent the other from eating, also ending in death. I'd only recommend keeping them in a tank that small if you can provide line of sight cover, i.e., section the tank off so that one fish can't see the other. I found my 12 gallon tank too small to keep more than one because of the constant fighting/forced starvation.

I think you would be fine with a few in a 5.5. They are very tiny. The only downside is most ONLY take live food.

Yeah, I like how tiny they are. Less than an inch!

Live food isn't a huge issue for me. It might be a little harder to afford though.

Hmm, now that might create a problem. I really don't want any fish that will breed. I don't have any other tanks for babies.

Everything I've read says that you could do 1 female to 1 male. Do you think just those two would be fine? Is there anything else I could add to the tank?

The tank will be highly planted, so there should be loads of cover, by the way.

If you can find a female I will give you $50 for it. I've been looking for a couple years now.

And that shot that idea right out of the water. Well, guess this species isn't an option.
