Any opinions.
Also Prime claims to remove nitrates and nitrites. I thought only water changes could do that, or is it do that effectively. No matter, I just want it for chlorine/chloramine and emergency ammonia reduction.

all I see is that the conditioner to water ratio is less with prime (1 cap: 50 gallons vs 1 tsp:10 gallons)

while I am on it, what about the fertilizer tetraplant Florapride? I never really fertilized before. I do'nt know if I want to either. I am trying to have no chemical filter on my tank.

Thanks!

Prime is much better and more cost effective. While it claims to reduce/detoxify nitrites, I wouldn't count on it for that purpose, since it only takes care of small amounts of nitrite (the exact amount is listed on the bottle).

I was using Amquel in my tank before I switched to Prime. The Prime is cheaper in the long run because of its higher concentration. As for nitrites and nitrates, yes, water changes are better. I wouldn't count on Prime in a touchy situation.

Prime?

Prime imho is a great product. It can be used to help ease a tank through cycling or help with a tank experiencing a mini cycle.
However it does not remove nitrates only nitrites and that is a 5x dose. It will also cause false/erroneous readings when using hagen test kits.
I use it any time I am worried about a tank such as during medication periods which can cause a bio filter die off.
It is cheaper than almost any other water conditioner out there 500ml treats 5000gals.

Prime time

I use Prime whenever the fish seem stressed or whenever I've had a problem with a filter. Maybe I came home and the power was off, before I even try to find out how long it's been off, I'd dose the tank with Prime.

Prime works fantastic. Use it on water changes or spikes only. On the advise of my LFS, I was using it about 4 times a week when I first started my tank. Well it neutralized the nitrites and nitrates too good, and pro-longed my cycle to almost 3 months. I now only use it for water changes.

Florapride is junk, don't get it. I tried it and it didn't do ANYTHING. Plus you have to use huge dosages which means the bottle will last a very short time and be way more expensive than flourish for example.

Acefred,

I used to use Amquel Plus as well, but it is not very concentrated, so you end up using a lot more to treat your water. I switched to Prime a while back, and the savings are incredible. I strongly encourage you to check out Prime. You'll certainly be glad you did once you realize how little you need to use.
