I picked up 5 rummynose tetras yesterday, and this morning 1 of them is showing signs of ich. I currently have them in a 10G QT tank and have the temperature around 85F and have so far added 1tbsp of salt.

Are rummys OK at that level of temperature for a short time? I can add an air stone if need be to help oxygenate the water. Hopefully these 5 make it and I am then at a school of 9, I can then keep an eye out for some more over time. If these do not make it then I am about ready to give up on rummys, half a dozen LFS and only 5 rummys around and they have ich. Not a good start, but at least its something easy to cure, the 5 are all eating like pigs already so hopefully thats a good sign.

Thanks.

Yes they can handle the temps as long as they aren't still stressed from the move. How is their color?

Their color is decent considering, they have a good amount of red back in the noses and the black and white stripes on the tail are looking good.

Lost 1 already, not all that happy, but am beginning to expect at least a 50% die off with rummys no matter where I have gotten them. I should have gotten black neons back on day 1!!

Well, as of last night (not been able to check yet today) I am down to 2 remaining rummys. I give up with them, if these remaining 2 survive I am at a survival rate of 25% (from the 24 rummys I have bought so far).

No idea what it is with them, but I have bought them from 3 different LFS, drip acclimate them etc and they either end up coming in with ich, or just slowly dying off 1 by 1 over a week or so. I think that if the remaining 2 make it out of QT I will put them in with the 4 I already have and then look at getting a school of 8 black neons in the tank as well.

That should leave me with the stock of 1 angel, 6 rummys, 8 black neons, 8 peppered corys and 2 rupperlip plecos in the 55G. I would have preferred a good school of rummys, but give up with them.

it could just be the time of year. if the fish are chilled, then it can be very detrimental for them. rummynoses actually require higher temps.

I think I just have bad luck with them, most of mine I bought during the summer.

If they actually require higher temps I might move the remaining 4 (hopefully 6) into my 29G with my angel pair. I keep the temperature in there around 80F, where in my 55G its closer to 75F.
