Good morning

I have a cloudy (milky) water issue that has hit my 46G BF and a 16G tall tank.

I did a 50% WC on both yesterday and the 46 is clearer now.
But the 16 was really bad this morning so I did a 75% WC just now.
The fish are fine. I have 4 neon’s, 1 SAE and 3 Honey gouramis
Planted with 3 swords, 4 crypts, HC moneywort and microswords.
Plants are healty & growing.

I suspect a bacterial bloom.
The PH is 6.8
DIY CO2
2.3 WPG on the 46, 2.5 WPG on the 16. Lights on 6 hours a day (timers)
Nitrates & Nitrites 0
.5ppm(mg/L) phosphate (same as tap water)

My question is:
1. Should I continue CO2 & ferts (EI)
2. Blackout?
3. No food for a few days

I don’t think I’m overfeeding.

Thank you in advance,
Charles :)

how long has the tank been up??
Did you do a gravel vac??
Did you treat the water prior to adding it to the tank?
What is your ammonia reading?

Continue ferts/co2 as you were before..
No reason to do a blackout since you dont know if this is algae bloom or a cycle..
Food.. feed just moderately

The tank is 18 months old.
I only skimmed the top of the gravel for debris.
Yes I used Tetra Aqusafe @ 8 drops per gallon.
Ammonia is at 0.
The water is not green when viewed in a white bowl.

Thanks for your input,
Charles

How planted is the tank? got a photo?

For a tank that old you shouldnt be going through a cycle now (unless you have been doing 50-75% water changes daily for the past week)
Give it a day or 2 and see how it goes. Also try adding some filter floss to your filter, that should clear things up a bit.

My other guess wouldve been the beginning of green water.. but you only keep lights on 6hrs so that probably cant be it..

No, I have aphoto of the 46 but not the 16.
The swords are 15" tall. One crypt is 7", another 4".
I also have a gob of hornwort floating on the surface.
I've only done 2 WC's in the past week, one last night,
& a 75% one this morning.
