Help!

My molly is giving birth. She is trying to eat her babies WHILE she is still having them. Some are still in eggs. What do I do?!?!?! Now, she is not giving birth. She had 3 babies and ate them..... what now?:help:

let nature take its course i would guess, theres not much you can do i wouldnt have thought x

Kelly, you are right. Let nature take its course. Those eggs are a sign she dropped her fry prematurely. Provide several thickets of plants in your main tank. While this may give her security and comfort, some fry are expected to survive and only the strongest can actually survive well. The weak ones will eventually be eaten by the other fish so you don't have to cull a fry that is weakened by several circumstances. Livebearers require no efforts to breed and rear the fry.

They are in a little net but she ate them. She only had three. I expected more when I woke up this morning, but none. I got her yesterday so do you think she had her babies at the pet store?

I believe she ate all her fry and is done with dropping fry for the time being. She will be gravid again in a week or two. What size is the tank and what else are in your tank? If you can provide thickets of plants, a few fry have a high chance of surviving the whole ordeal until they are big enough not to be eaten. They do not require efforts to breed and then rear the fry. Livebearers are very prolific and a single courtship with the male alone is enough for the female to drop several batches of fry for a few months in different time intervals.

They were in the cloth net fish container. I only have other mollies.... Should I put her back in with the males? Or should I keep her in the fish net breeder thingy??

The breeder traps are very stressful and are not advisable for use. Use a 5g tank rather with several thickets of plants as her breeding place. Return her to the main tank after 24-48 hours of rest. If exposed to the presence of the males again, she will be severely stressed. Is your tank heavily planted? If so, you can return her now as she will seek refuge among thickets of plants.

I just put it up about a month ago so i dont have any plants. I do have 2 rock-type things she can hide behind. I only have 3 other mollies in the tank and it is 29g so it will not be too bad, right? Does the 5g have to have a filter or can it just be a bowl or something? I will return her tomorrow morning.

How many males do you have? Replace one of your males with a female. Males are quite persistent and will constantly chase the female around. It is best you keep one male only. Recommended sex ratio is one male to 2-3 females.

A tank with filtration is actually much more preferable than a bowl with daily water changes. You only need a sponge filter and a bunch of plants to put a breeding tank into operation.

3 males. My two other females are preggy so they are not yet in the male tank. You see, I am just a kid and my dad wants me to do this for myself so I really dont know what to do..... I will go to the fish store for plants next week. I cant go any earlier.. What do I do?
