Planting aquatic plants

Some people say use tweezers and plant them. I usually use my finger and plant it firmly in the gravel and drag myfinger and plant in the gravel and it seems to stay in place..

Thanks for that, but I have done that and more, I have resorted to planting them and then putting a rock on top to keep them there, but it is not where I would like the plants to be, so am hoping for a miracle that will keep them in the gravel where I plant them.

try plant weights. they can be wrapped around the base of the stems. then bury the roots, leaving the weight just above the gravel. when the roots have had a chance to take hold in your gravel, you can remove the weights, and the plants should have no problem staying put.

GL!

As mentioned in a response post, plant weights are a good solution. I have not been able to find them to buy - even the guys at my LFS can't tell me where to purchase them. But usually if you buy established plants (unpotted) when they are bagged up, you might see if the weights are on the bottoms of the stems, if so, ask if you can have them! Most LFS are ok with giving them to you, as they most likely have a ton!

I've also used fishing line and other fine thread to attach a plant to a bit of driftwood and that works great too.

Good luck! Planted tanks can sometimes be a chore, but they can be so worth it!

Thank you, the next time I goto the aquarium shop I will ask about plant weights. Two of the plants I potted are still in their pots. the other one is again floating on the top, so will have another go at planting it in the pot.

I usually get a weight with every bunch of plants that I buy at the LFS. Little strip of lead at the bottom.

If you can't find them at your LFS, try aquabid.com . I saw a guy on there selling a stip of weights for like $3.

In a pinch, I have used pipe cleaners. Wrap them around the stem with about half an inch sticking out on both sides, and this will act as an anchor and keep the plants down. Pipe cleaners are cheap too.
