I have a mini bow 5 right now with a betta in it, i wanted something else in there so i added some live bamboo from my LFS... i acclimated for 20 minutes and dug them in the gravel.. some of the roots are kinda sticking out, is that fine, will the roots attach themselves???

Mm, from what I've heard bamboo (and I guess that's not even what it is really? assuming you got it from Petco/smart) won't survive fully submerged. It needs to be sticking out of the top, it'll rot otherwise.

um..lol..idk they've been growing it in the store for a while. ive seen it in all my LSF's..i guess we can only wait and see.?

It is in fact non-aquatic. Leave it in at your own peril, it rots slowly which is why the marts of the world get away with it.

It takes a while, Don.. but they're not fully aquatic. The roots can stay in water, though.

Well, yeah, they also have white ribbon plant etc fully submerged in tanks some places. I've seen some of it rotting, the ones that aren't are probably either not fully submerged, or they just throw it out and replace it when it rots.

bamboo gets WAY to big for an aquarium, and if not, I WANT that aquarium!!! What you are referring to is a different species, often called "lucky bamboo". It probably won't make it if all of it's leaves are submerged... like most semi-aquatic plants sold for aquarium use, it will last a few months, and then start rotting. if you can keep a couple leaves above the surface, it will prolly make it...

i agree with everybody else. wont live for long

so ill keep it in there till it starts to rot..when i see it rotting ill put it in a jar next to the tank :)

so for my tank which is a low light tank, java fern, or java moss are ok? i like them..
