planning big terrarium

To fill in the ground, people either use hydroton, which are expanded clay balls, or eggcrate wrapped with screen mesh. Do a search for both on dendroboards and you'll get a lot of info on them

i wanna watch this build. what i can say is DONT get whites tree frogs for a 'community' terrarium. i hav one and i tried to introduce a female, and he tried to eat her. they were both the same size too.

thanks. did some reading. lots more to do.

good advice. i think i am going to get red-eyes as that is what everyone else seems to want although after seeing some frogs in person i really want some green tree frogs aka dumpy's frogs.. they are so big and awesome. they have a really long life expectancy though where the red eyes only live up to five years so if they don't breed i will get my first choice after that.
i purchased a rigid pond form, the smallest one i could find but it is too big to put into the tank so i had a different idea. since i am planning to fill in 'hills' in some areas i am going to cut apart the pondform and place it upside down to fill in the spaces underground without adding much weight. i will secure it into place using great stuff and/or silicon and perhaps some dowls if necessary. i have not decided yet. then i will use the great stuff to make ridges to hold the soil and drainage material in place all over the pond forms. i will also be using it to help create a waterfall feature that will become a small stream that will flow into the front left corner which is drilled where the water will pump back up to the top using a canister filter(marineland, which i already ordered from my lps although i forget which one it was). i beleive i already have more than enough rocks to build the waterfall from that came with the tank.
i had some very interesting talks with the owner of my lps about setting up this tank. he is actually also in the planning stages of setting up a very similar tank in the store although his will be inset into the wall(i wish!) and it will have a deeper water feature to accomidate some schooling fish. seems like perhaps a little competition may come out of it...lol.
i am still working on 'the list' of things i will need in order to complete this project.

great stuff pond and stone, several cans
natural gravel for drainage
unfertilized soil
eco earth
playsand
possible misting system if necessary, will find out after it's built
plastic eggcrate
new bulbs for heat lamp 100w
assorted plants
thermometer
humidity gauge

plus on top of all this i am in the process of buying a 210g tank for my lungfish cause this one didn't work out so it may be a while but i will for sure keep this thread going through out the process.

Hi
Thought I'd watch your build as I'm in a similar boat. 150 gallon with an unfixable leak.lol Mine is located in the sh so is also subjected to weather including rain.
have run it as a semi/aquatic terrarium for a couple of years . Due to a heating breakdown got a bit frosted !!lol. Thinking of a major overhaul come spring . Probably
a "lowland tropical epiphytic " mostly for plants . Though I have ytears of experience with epiphytes almost zilch with the types that appreciate terraiums.
Will be a false bottom along with natural light but will have a reliable heating system this go round. Probably no animals as I have plenty of critters in the SH lol.
Hopefully we can exchange some ideas as we go along?? I did run a 75 gallon paludarium for several years in the fish room with a epiphyte section on the top.
With the breakdown of the 150 has been converted back to an aquarium
You sound a lot like me . A lot more stuff than i can take care of ?? lol
gary
