Petsmart UV in tank sterilizer - review

Been running them in my 55's for 8 months now; got 'em on a timer to come on at midnight and go off at 8 in the AM.

Not sure if they work or not, but water is clear, fishies are healthy. Might be a placebo to my worry-wart mind....

I received and installed the 24W. It is honkin' huge. The length of a 300W heater and 3x the thickness.

For space considerations alone, an inline UV sterilizer would be better if you have a canister filter.

Mine spewed out a cloud of dust when I started it up. Might be advisable to run it in tub or sink first so it can clean itself out.

Not at mine either- that's why I had to order it online.

Further update:

I initially noticed my water was indeed clearer, but still very much greenish. Not long after my last update, my tank was became 100% clear.. no mor eBlue Green Algae.

So I'm pretty happy with it. I think the reason it took so long was that the flow rate is quite lower than what is spec'd. While that ensures the uV bulb will do the job, I think it's probably too slow.

But the 9watt is a small unit that works out nicely in my tank..... I've had it going 24/7 mostly.
