peas for fish?

I'm very new to keeping fish. I've been reading on this site for a few weeks now...have become involved (thanks everyone!) and have learned a lot. I have seen more than a few references to giving peas to fish in distress. Could somebody please fill me in? Thanks!
 
Alot of times fish get bloated. Sometimes from illness or parisites other times from constipation. Shelled frozen peas slightly cooked will help with constipation. Some of us give them regularly (once a week) to keep the fish from having problems.
 
Sounds like a digestive panacea! I have 3 Serpae, 5 Lemon Terae, 5 Rasbora het., and 12 Neons. How many peas would you suggest on a weekly basis? Do I feed between meals? I feed twice daily.
 
Just a couple. I usually take a couple out of the bag and put them in a bowl with just a bit of water. Nuke for 30 seconds then run under cold water and the pour all of the water off. Lightly squeeze and the shell of the pea slips right off. Put the peas back in the bowl and smush (technical term) with a fork (It makes it easier for smaller mouths). Feed the peas instead of one of the meals you feed.

Seriously, nuked peas are a great cure for fishy constipation. :thm:
 
LOL! it all sounds so funny but it really works :) Nice for keeping fish "regular". Hope it works well for you!
