For you guys that have them, do you find that they're primarily nocturnal? I usually see them hiding during the day and out at night. I don't see them do a lot of feeding, though I did see the female peck at a flake the other day.

I'd like to fatten them up a bit. Do you think night feeding is appropriate for them?

As per breeding. When can I start conditioning them to breed? The female just laid eggs this past week. I know they'll breed when they're ready and when they want to, but I don't want to encourage them to do it too soon if it's not good for them. I'm anxious for eggs but not at the expense to their health.

They aren't nocturnal. They aren't very active fish to begin with. Males tend to stay on the bottom resting on their fins. They are not aggressive eaters either, although you can condition them to be in time. Mine know that when the food hits the water they better get on it before the endlers or they don't eat.

If you want to condition them just start feeding some live or frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, etc.

I conditioned mine on live Blackworms.

I don't have enough blackworms right now to feed out. I'm trying to conserve them to breed. I have frozen brine shrimp, daphnia, cyclops (maybe too small), and bloodworms to give them though. Maybe some confused flour beetles too.

Cyclops are fine and really good when the fry get big enough to take them.

I meant for adults though. Those things are tiny! Even smaller than my daphnia.
