My husband and I recently took on a 9" paroon shark from a friend who was changing out his 50 gal tank where she has been for the last year (neither them or us knew what type of catfish he was until now).

We set up a 60 gal tank and added three mollies into it until the tank was ready (3 weeks). We placed the paroon shark in our tank 7 days ago and she seemed very calm and happy until last night.

All she is doing now is running into the side of the tank and thrashing about.

I understand now that she is in much too small of a aquarium and we are going to place her in a pond style surrounding within the next month when we move.

We are feeding her shrimp pellates but she doesn't seem to want to eat them nor will she feed on the small mollies in her tank. We are trying to feed her once daily aout five pellates but the previous caretaker only feed her 3 times a week.

I would appreciate any suggestions someone might have on how to help her calm down and what type of fish she might eat. Also, how oftern should we try to feed her?

try makeing as many hideing spots as possible inthe tank (plants and caves) also if it is freaking out keep the lights off, this will help reduce stress. and as info goes, google is your friend, jus find the scientific name by googleing "paroon shark" then google that for more specific info.

good luck!

I have googled eveything but nowhere is there information about feeding. I will Planetcatfish.com for advise. As far as hiding places, we have had to tak out almost everything but a few plants because she was bumping and thrashing into everything, in fact, she hurt her nose.

We are going to try to not feed her for 72 hours then feed her to see if we can get her to eat eaither Shrimp or a feeder fish.

Thank you for the advise

try covering / painting the back and sides of the tank :)

Thank you for the advise-she is doing great

Thank you everyone for the wonderful advise. "Ciara" is doing great and eating shrimp pellets daily with the bi-weekly guppy. All of her stress injuries have healed very nicely and she is extremely calm.

If I can figure out how, I will post her picture.

...YEAH! Here She is.
