I have a 55 Gallon tank with 2 Oscars, Two Green Terrors and a Red Terror. All of these fish are about 2-3" long. Has anyone had any experience with these fish and a Blue Lobster (Crayfish) in the tank as well. I have heard mixed feelings about this setup.

Thank You

That 55 is too small for all those fish. You need at least 100 gallons for those fish, and thats even pushing it.

mine would kill anything ell shoped or long and skinny like an eel (farowela).
If the fish are really aggresive ones let him keep his claws. If they are dosile clip the claws

Crayfish (or the blue lobster you call it) eat fish... fish eat crayfish. Somewhere, sometime, somethings going to get eaten.

My Oscars loved crayfish and could eat good sized ones when they got about 6" long.

Not a good mix and as stated, the 55 is too small for oscars.

I would say more along the lines of a 180g tank.

Crayfish are best left to species tanks.

This Blue Lobster thing pisses me off bad.
My first oscar tank 20 years ago I was told I could put a blue lobster in the tank and it cost me $30.00 in 1985 that might be $50 now days. Back then those seemed like they were more rare. Anyway I bought this thing and asked more then once if it would be ok in my oscar tank. I told them they were both about the same size. They said yes all three times.

Anyway I went out to lunch. Came home and the lobster was gone only a shell was left. I could have eaten a lobster for that amount of money that day but my oscar did.

Lets go to present day. My wife brought home a blue lobster for our baby cichlid tank. I told her no take it back. She said the fish store said it would be ok. I said they don't know anything at the fish store. Anyway, It was a little bit bigger than the fish I had at that time. It Killed my Green Severon when he slept. Then two days later my Midas Cichlid ate his eyes out. then as it got weaker everyone fed. Don't listen to the fish store they don't know anything about blue losters.

My experience is about the same, I bought one once, and it lasted 6 days. during which it shredded every single fish fin in the tank while trying to catch fish to eat. finally my Oscars got fed up and destroyed the blue lobster. It was months before my fish healed up from the attacks, and as cool as blue lobsters are it will be a chilly day in Hades when I purchase another one.

Mine didn't show much interest in the lobster as a source of food, but eventually they got tired of constant harrassment and fought back. the lobster was found hammered to bits, but not eaten. That was a long time ago in a very mis-understood tank.

Almost every article I've read on breeding Oscars recommends conditioning them on crayfish. The blues are often large, but sooner or later I imagine the oscar's going to give it a go.
