Marineland customer service is top notch. When I bought my HOT it was missing the micron cartridge. So, Marinland sent me a whole case of 12 cartridges.

I'm not sure if I would call that great CS or poor quality control I had a similar thing happen with them. When they redesigned the penguin filters I got one with the mid water skimmer missing. Called and told them and they sent me 24 of them. In two separate shipments. I couldn't even give them to my wholesalers, so I kept 6 and the rest went in the recycling box.

The filtration that the Magnum gives is pretty okay if you have a 25-30 gallon tank. I have a 29 with 2 temporary Red Bellied Piranhas (am upgrading in about 6 months to a 75). They are a little to messy for me to be able to use this filter as you have to pop it open to clean it. With my Piranhas I am cleaning media 3 times weekly along with water changes. It gets aggrivating to have to pop it open all the time to clean the sponge. I think my next pay check I will get an AC110 for my 29. Then when I upgrade I will have a cycled filter with reusable media. Maybe a 70 I'll have to check the flow of the 110 to see if it is too much. Right now I am running two Whisper 60s and they have to be cleaned often. Pretty much if you have a low bio load, I would say go for the Mangnum BIO-Pro. Just too much maintenance for messy fish.

I found the my HOT mag on a clearance rack for $22. It had been previously opened(or purchased) but had never been used. It was missing the micron cartridge and core. I didn't need the HOT but for $22 why not.
I see your point though, why in the world would they send me over a hundred dollars worth of filter cartridges? BTW they only sent me one core.
