My gosh, i cant believe what's goin on!!! My nitrites keep coming back! This is my like my first time battling against water... :help:. Is this something called re-cycle? I just used a capful and a half of prime just to try and help out remove nitrite out of my water, 55 gallon tank. Should i do a crazy water change? -100% water change or something!?!?! :mad2: nitrites are driving me nuts! my silver dollar's lips are wide and tide, my discus are breathin, heck all of my fish are breathing....AGAIN!!even when i done like 3 wc's already to keep the nitrites low to sky blue zero at bay. Could it be my faucet water that i'm using? I started using my python so yeah, everyone starts using it when they buy that...i used to use my tub faucet before. AhhHhHH I'm gonna remove my discus immdiately and get a refund for tetras!!I..don't want to do another wc T_T if im doing another one, im going for -50% water change, clean the sand, heater, wood, frickin everything without losing the cycle. bah im mad. I have a 20 gallon at the moment and i think i can use it and burrow some of my dad's quilt battling bacteria bag from his tank, and add my current fish into the 20 gallon and wait for my 55 gallon to shape up and cycle??You know what, I don't think the discus are causing this..it's probably something about my filter inside. I mean juvenile discus, seriously, can they really cause this nitrite constant spiking havoc?I might as well place them in a bucket for now. What a nightmare this has become...and a night like this...who the heck is going to be on to help? lol =_=

My water parameters are as usual expect the disturbing nitrite taking over.

pH 7.4
Ammonia 0 ppm
Nitrate 10
Nitrite 0.25 & 0.50 going ups and downs mix.

I have moved all of my fish down to my old 20 gallon.

Cycled already, water condtioners novaqua & amquel on the go, aeration, fish are now in already. They are looking good thankfully. phew!the relief! NOW for my mighty 55 gallon +_+. I don't think i'll be sleeping today lol 4:40 in teh morning

When you do PWCs don't mess with your filter. Changing filter contents can cause a mini-cycle as most of your Beneficial Bacteria is in the filter itself. The discus can be one of the problems. You have to understand that when you cycle a tank only enough Bacteria grows to convert toxins. Bacteria does not "stockpile", it does multiply fast but adding extra bio-load (fish) to a tank which only has enough to handle a smaller amount WILL cause a mini-cycle. Thats why you only add a little at a time to a already cycled tank. Keep up the water changes. Check your water params out of the faucet.

Without anything in your 55 gal tank your Bacteria will die. If you want to cycle this tank you'll need an ammonia source. Your not far from being cycled. The move may start a mini cycle in your 20, watch it.

I have a product called Cycle. Perhaps this will do the trick?

Those products for the most part are a waste of money take a hand full of gravel from your 20g put it in the 55 you can use a filter bag or just drop it in this will help with the cycle.
I would do 20% a day till the nitrites are under control.

what are you using for filters what is your tap water parameters?

cycle won't do anything
bio spira will help, but even if you do use it you'd have to keep some fish (or another source of ammonia) in the 55, otherwise you'll lose your source of ammonia and stop the cycle in its tracks, and therefore you're gonna have to start from the beginning again.

keep the discus out as they are very sensitive to those conditions. but i would put most of the others back in and just keep up on 50% + WCs when needed to keep it under .25 and add prime or whatever you have that neutralizes the nitrite whe needed. should be easy since you have a python.
