Hi Guys:
I'm new here and new to the hobby (I had a 10g tank as a teenager), I'm starting this adventure again, I set up a new 36g bow freshwater tank and right now I'm in the process of cycling the tank, in the meantime I'm looking in the correct fish for the tank, I'm looking for something like catfish or any small shark fish (if any), I want a stand out fish, and want to combine medium and small fish in the tank. I also like colorful fish and fish with stripes. Any suggestion will be great appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

My all time favorite centerpiece fish is a gourami. Normal ones can get to 6" long and just be stunning and full of personality. They are very smart too. When picking your centerpiece, check for compatibility and plan around it to ensure everything goes well.

Rams are also really pretty and peaceful, 2-3", easy to care for. They live for about 3 years, also I forgot zebra plecos live about 10 years so make sure you want one before you get one.

Beware of fish that have 'shark' in their name. Those generally either get very big or aggressive. There are many colorful and striped fish, it would be best if you went to your LFS and see which ones they have that you like, note their names or take pictures and post here if they are good choices. Asking the LFS is usually pointless, unfortunately...

Thanks for the advise, is a beautiful species but I prefer non endangered ones.
I doubt you would be getting a zebra pleco from the wild... So not sure how having endangered/extinct fish from the wild being bred in captivity is going to be a bad thing?

If people don't buy them, they will not be bred, then they will be gone forever.

Potentially look into something like the CARES program for a little more info.
