new saltwater tank diary

Awesome tank. To me I don't think anthing is wrong with the yellow tail damsel. And please if it is sick, just try to cure in stead of throwing it away.

I have heard that some paints contain substances that are toxic. Unfortunately, I don't know which kinds of paints so I'm not very useful am I!

ok thanks though
i think the fish are doing ok if it has been there for 6 days
there is no sign of ammonia poisoning
(i am saying this because they were added the day after i setup the tank
i did a test ammonia is pretty high 0.20
i want to lower it but don't know how with out buying addetives except changing water
so when the cycle ends i hope they survive

Wishing you luck!

yeah, changing water will lower the ammonia...
Im not sure at what level the ammonia becomes really dangerous to fish, but i would think that as long as you keep it below .25 youll probably be ok...
Goodluck!

thank you guys
every one in the family wants to add another fish because they said the tank looks like every fish died except 2
so any ideas i know it is crowded but i think about adding it in a 2 weeks

u shouldnt add anything until ur tank is stable enough to take more living species... your ammonia and nitrite should be 0 before u even THINK of adding any other fish... the reason is that if u add more fish, they will create more waste, which in return will increase the ammonia because ur bacteria isnt strong enough to control the ammonia and nitrite levels in teh tank...

wait at least another month before you add anything in there...
also, what size is ur tank?

I believe this tank is 10G (correct me if I'm wrong) so I don't think you will be fitting many more fish in there. A clown and a damsel in a 10G is about it (many would say that's too much) maybe a single goby or something would fit, but I doubt that would make the tank look much more 'full' for your family.

If your family wants a lot more fish, then tell them they will just have to buy you a bigger tank LOL. And in any case, you should not be adding anything until your nitrites and ammonia are STABLE at 0 (meaning they have been there for a few days at least), which I'd think would be at least a month from now. So I'd tell your family to be patient or buy you a bigger tank.

it is a 10 g and thank you for your advice
i am going to wait until the ammonia stablizes and the nitrite
and see if i can add maybe a invertabrate like a small hermit crab or 2 and a shrimp
day 7 the fish are doing ok

my water is kind of cloudy or i don't know if the glass is cloudy
because i clean the glass with toilet paper
any treatings for this
